Today, we had group work for most of the morning where we began drafting and researching our topics for our paper. My group is doing our paper on "Mass Industrial Tourism with an Emphasis on Ecotourism". Basically, we plan on talking about how unevenly distributed the tourism aspect is on the entire TCI (Provo is pretty much the only tourist island), and we will give examples and suggestions for spreading more tourism on other islands while still keeping it environmentally friendly. We have a good start so far and I think we have a good combination of majors to get a really good grade on this paper. After the group work, we had another lecture on tourism, and then it was lunch time. Between lunch and my last practice snorkel session for the fish identification, I studied a whole lot of scientific names. I was able to name all of the fish my teacher pointed to, and I have all of the names down except about three. But, I have until Monday, so I'm totally fine! :) During the snorkel I saw a small porcupine fish (Diodon hystrix), a very tiny puffer fish (Canthigaster rostrata), a ton of stingrays, and some really big fish that are normally rare to see, which was cool! :)
After the snorkel we had a large game of volleyball going on, again. LOL! It is our favorite thing to do in our free time, plus we have a competition going on either tomorrow or Sunday so we have to get really good. Today some of the locals even played with us so it was a lot of fun :)
For some reason that I am not aware of, our salt water system is not working at the moment so I wasn't able to take a salt water shower tonight :( I had to sea bathe in the ocean. It was not fun. I did it as quickly as possible and then came back and rinsed my body and hair with our sink water (which is fresh water just not filtered enough to drink). I'm hoping the shower (and I forgot to mention toilets!) are back up and running tomorrow. But I do plan on using my fresh water shower either tomorrow or Sunday, so that will be nice. I am going to take the longest shower of my life when I come back home, and I am already super excited for it!!!! It will be so nice to get out of the shower and still feel clean, because here I feel dirty again after 5 minutes if I step outside haha. I'm not trying to complain, honestly it's not that bad and I have gotten used to the water situation, I just wanted you all to know how lucky you are and to appreciate it! ;)
Tonight is movie night, and I think everyone voted on Despicable Me (I guess we all like Disney movies?). It will be a relaxing night and a good break knowing we don't have any homework for tomorrow. I do have to prepare for teaching English tomorrow for community engagement though. I am in charge of putting together a powerpoint about analogies, similes, and metaphors. I should probably get started on that now. I didn't take any pictures today, but I stole a few pictures from some of the students here so you can see some of the fish I get to look at everyday! :) Goodnight and Happy Friday everyone!
